Back in 1997, outstanding customer service didn't exist when it came to Web Hosting. Since most of us here are programmers, we set out to create some entertaining, interactive sites that would allow our visitors to enjoy funny sound clips and graphics all in a searchable format, only to find out that most hosts back then didn't allow CGI scripts to run on their servers. Worse, we spent more than 3 days waiting on the support department to email us back that crucial bit of information.

Nearly a year and six web hosts later, we'd had enough. Some hosts offered unlimited space, then charged hundreds in over-bandwidth fees. Others offered unlimited bandwidth, then throttled the server so we couldn't use it. Still others offered 24/7 support, from some note-taker that had no clue what we were talking about.
